November 8, 2022, Class Update: The Existence of God
Greetings everyone!
While I was absent from our most recent class on November 8, I had the chance to speak with Matt Goto, the substitute teacher. It sounds like you all had an interesting class and posed some good questions about the existence of God, which is the focus of chapter 5 "Divine Activity" in the green book Christ Reveals God's Mystery.
Through our senses and intellectual abilities, we come to see how God reveals Himself in the world around us, and through His work in salvation history, especially in the covenants, by which He brings us into relationship with Himself.
Thank you, Matt, for substituting while I was doing the incredible work of serving the community at a polling place on Election Day.
As a reminder, there is a Scripture reflection activity due by class time on November 15.
Visit this link with the Scripture readings calendar on the USCCB website and pick any Scripture passage for any day of the week. (Please note the psalms are written in a responsorial form, so it's a different format than the other readings.)
After reading one of the Scripture passages, please go to this link and submit a short reflection of 1-2 sentences describing what stood out to you in that passage.
Also, for those 8th graders preparing for Confirmation, there is an enrollment Mass at St. Edmund at 11 AM on November 13. I plan to be there, so I look forward to seeing you.
Looking ahead to our next class on November 15, we'll take the opportunity to remember those we know who have gone on, and in that spirit of memorials, we'll also have the opportunity to spend time on the Eucharist. And I look forward to being back in class with you all.
As usual, please feel free to contact me with questions, etc.
I pray the Holy Spirit works among you greatly in the coming days.
Remember you are loved and called to love.
We remain connected as One Church: All my relations.
God's blessings,
Paul
P.S. Here's a prayer on the USCCB website for after an election, which was the opening prayer in class.
